AC Milan could have signed €120m-bound Caicedo for a ridiculous low fee

AC Milan could have signed Moises Caicedo for a minimal fraction of the €120 million fee Chelsea will be paying to Brighton.

The expected departure of Moises Caicedo from Brighton is turning into a sensational soap opera. The 21-year-old Ecuadorian defensive midfielder is set to become one of the most expensive transfers in football history following a heated battle between Premier League giants, Liverpool and Chelsea, for his services.

It seemed like everything was coming to an end after Liverpool had seen a bid of €120 million accepted for Moises Caicedo. The Reds coach Jurgen Klopp confirmed an agreement had been reached with Brighton. However, Caicedo decided to reject the Liverpool destination telling Klopp he wants to join only Chelsea.

An improved bid is expected from Chelsea to seal the agreement with Moises Caicedo expected to eclipse the transfer of Enzo Fernandez and establish a new British record. Brighton will be making a tremendous profit for a player they signed only €5 million in 2021 and has played only one full season with them.

One year before Brighton had purchased him, AC Milan had the opportunity to sign Moises Caicedo from Ecuadorian club Independiente for a figure of ‘only’ €2 million reveals Daniele Longo. Today it looks a ridiculous low fee considering that the 21-year-old is on the verge of completing a record transfer to Chelsea of over  €120 million.

Caicedo was signaled to the management by head scout Geoffrey Moncada in 2020. At the end, AC Milan opted against the signing of the young and promising Ecuadorian talent. AC Milan mistake was later repeated by Manchester Unitied who had the chance to bring Moises in England for a similar fee but opted otherwise.
